Class 1 | Intro

Welcome!

I will post all materials and assignments each week on our Blog page.

📓For the next class, which will be on September 11h, you have to:

📔Homework (Writing assignment #1): Select a 30-second segment from your preferred movie and write a detailed scene description. Please ensure you pay more attention to its visual side than the story.

✍ When watching a film, pay attention to its framing or mise-en-scène. This refers to how the elements of the shot are arranged on screen. Take note of the positioning of the actors and set decoration, as well as the objects closest and furthest from the camera. This can help you understand what's prominent in the scene. If you're watching the film on a computer, take screenshots to analyze still frames. Also, consider how the scene is lit and how the highlights and shadows affect the mood. Shots that are framed dark can make the scene mysterious, while well-lit scenes may seem more comfortable or exposed.
Take note of camera angles, movement, and framing to convey a scene's desired feeling and tension. For example, action scenes may have multiple angles and movements to create excitement, while horror scenes may use close-up shots and no camera movement to build tension.
